GOOD NEWS: GAUTRAIN OPERATIONAL

The system will open with two train services between OR Tambo International Airport and Sandton. All airport trains go via Sandton station. The "Commuter Service" links all the stations with the exception of the airport.

Gautrain's Ticket Fares are:

The "Airport Service" is R100 for a single train trip to the airport.
Single train trip costs
Sandton to Marlboro will cost R16.50,
Sandton to Rhodesfield R21.00; and from
Marlboro to Rhodesfield R18.50.

NAMIBIA

Nambia is a popular hunting destination during the winter months for many South-Africans and people from abroad. However, this winter they are faced with the possibility of Rift Valley fever. Strict rules are in places to control the situation. This affects the plans of many hunters because it might not be feasible for non-trophy hunters to visit Namibia for hunting.

Some background information about Rift Valley Fever and the current regulations:

Humans can be infected with Rift Valley if they come into close contact with sick animals, aborted fetuses, blood and other body fluids especially during handling, slaughtering, butchering and milking. The disease can also be transmitted to humans by mosquitoes and biting flies.

It is recommended that meat intended for human consumption (from healthy animals) must be chilled and matured at +2°C for a minimum period of 24 hours which will inactivate the virus.

Meat for personal consumption will be allowed into South Africa with a veterinary health certification:

(i) Processed hides, skins, horns, bones and trophies
(ii) Break dried biltong and droëwors with an allowance of 10kg per passenger vehicle without a South African Import permit and 200kg with a SA Import permit
